Program and Curriculum

Encouraging Success

Nativity Academy Curriculum

Nativity Academy Curriculum

Program and Curriculum:

At Nativity Academy, we believe that all students regardless of their background, can learn at a high level if provided the support, guidance, and opportunity to do so. We believe that it is our duty as educators and as an institution to engage with students and meet them where they are while setting achievable goals and challenging students to be their most authentic self utilizing a rigorous curriculum framework. Nativity Academy is accredited by Cognia in the state of Kentucky as a non-public school. Our academic program includes whole day instruction as well as extended enrichment throughout the week. Students also participate in a summer program that aims to support the whole child.

Nativity Academy uses the Archdiocesan Framework for standards, Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, and Wiggins/McTighe’s Understanding by Design(UBD) Framework when designing, implementing, and assessing instructional programs at the school level. The subject standards are available here. Our teachers participate in a variety of professional development and planning sessions to design and implement their lessons. Teachers are provided time to collaborate and work on lesson planning during Professional Development sessions called PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) throughout the school year. These PLCs provide collaborative spaces for teachers to analyze how specific learning strategies, assessments, and performance tasks best support our students.

House System:

Nativity Academy has four HOUSES that our students belong to as well as faculty/staff. The HOUSE program’s intent is to promote a strong sense of community by providing positive collaboration experiences and healthy competition through a variety of individual and group tasks/responsibilities. The HOUSE system was also designed for students to practice their leadership skills as they take on leadership roles while working with their peers. HOUSE time is provided weekly and monthly. At various times throughout the school year, HOUSE rewards and celebrations are administered.

School Lunch Program:

Everyday, our students receive breakfast, lunch and a snack, at no  extra charge, to keep them fueled during their busy days at Nativity  Academy.

  • National School Lunch Program

Spiritual LIfe

God calls us into life and sustains us by God’s Holy Spirit. As we reflect on God in this world, we acknowledge God’s presence through prayer and worship and beg to know God’s will for us. Because we need to celebrate our belief in God, in whatever form we conceive Him, the entire school meets for daily morning prayer, prayer services, and Mass when scheduled. In addition, it is hoped that all students participate regularly in their own churches.

MakerSpace:

Nativity Academy’s Maker Space is a top of the line creative space for our students. They are able to participate in a variety of STEM/STEAM + Technology projects throughout the school year. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively when utilizing the technology in that space.

Extended Enrichment Program:

Nativity Academy has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club KY.  to provide Extended Enrichment for our students Monday-Thursday. While students attend the  Boys and Girls Club, they have required educational time for working on homework, studying, and/or getting support with academics. It is the Boys and Girls Club's mission to provide academic, recreational, and mentoring opportunities. Our students engage in programming involving academics, athletics, art, gardening, cooking, and more. The Nativity staff does offer enrichment camps and clubs throughout the school year as well.

Summer Program:

Each student at Nativity Academy is part of our required summer program. This program provides students the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities as it extends our school year.
